Poem - Kind Heart

More than anything, I pray for a kind heart

So when times get tough, I do not build barbed-wired fences for protection

But I sow seeds of trust, opening my senses to this world,

Awakening to its entangled, messy, sacred fragility

.

May I recognize your pain as my own

Your hunger as my stomach’s emptiness

Your beauty as part of the earth’s

No matter our differences in DNA

.

May I have the wisdom to yield this compassion

Regeneratively

Allowing myself to rest tenderly on soft grounds.

Nursing to sleep rush and responsibility

And when I awake

Let my heart be wide as a bowl

Large enough to hold oceans of fear, rage & grief

Let the depth of these waters open me to tremble in the face of a Single bud breaking open

Revealing a beautiful blossom on a warm day

Fading away in the evening

.

Teaching me to live my life as a love letter to this dying world.
